Aconseguiria, una Catalunya independent, el reconeixement internacional? La pregunta forma part d'un debat carregat de controvèrsia, amb tota mena de veus opinant sobre fins a quin punt un eventual estat català aconseguiria ser acceptat en l'escena internacional. La polèmica se centra de forma especial en la permanència o no en la Unió Europea.
La importància del reconeixement internacional d'una Catalunya independent va moure l'associació Sobirania i Justícia a organitzar una conferència sobre el tema. La tercera edició ha tingut lloc aquest divendres a la Fundació Vila Casas i a la Pedrera.
En la sessió inaugural, Stefan Talmon (Universitat de Bonn University) i Bardo Fassbender (Universitat de St. Gallen) han parlat sobre el reconeixement dels nous estats. El tema ha tornat a centrar el primer dels tres debats de la sessió de la tarda, oberta al públic. En el segon debat, Eduard Kukan (eurodiputat i exministre d'Afers Estrangers d'Eslovàquia) i l'expresident Jordi Pujol han parlat sobre el vintè aniversari de la independència d'Eslovàquia. Finalment, en l'últim debat, Carme Colomina (cap d'Internacional de l'ARA), Albert Font (Centre Català de Negocis), Jaume Ventura (Centre de Recerca en Economia Internacional) i Max Vives-Fierro (Fundació Catalunya-Europa) han reflexionat sobre la importància que Catalunya tingui veu pròpia en l'escena global.
Building a New State
Would an independent Catalonia achieve international recognition? This is the question at the centre of a hotly contested debate. Following the strength of the social and political movement asking for a referendum on independence, many experts have given their points of view on whether an eventual Catalan state would be accepted into the world's stage. The controversy revolves in particular around the European Union membership. Would the new state be expelled from the European institutions, as the Spanish Government and media insist?
It is the acknowledgement that the recognition of a new state would be crucial for its survival what moved the association Sobirania i Justícia (Sovereignty and Justice) to organize, two years ago, a conference under the title 'Building a New State'. Now in its third edition, the conference has taken place this Friday October the 4th in Barcelona's Fundació Vila Casas and la Pedrera.
In the opening session Stefan Talmon (Bonn University) and Bardo Fassbender (St Gallen University) have discussed the recognition of new states. The issue has been revisited in the first of the three debates of the evening session, all of them open to the public. In the second debate Eduard Kukan (MEP and Slovakia's ex minister for Foreign Affairs), and Jordi Pujol (president of Catalonia, 1980-2003) have talked about the twentieth anniversary of Slovakia's independence. In the last debate Carme Colomina (Head of World News in ARA newspaper), Albert Font (Centre Català de Negocis), Jaume Ventura (Centre de Recerca en Economia Internacional) and Max Vives-Fierro (Fundació Catalunya-Europa) have expressed their points of view on Catalonia's voice in the global stage.
